We are in official beta.

Connect SharePoint to your FlyaDoc box

Files flown to your FlyaDoc address can be sent on to a document library in your organization's SharePoint. You connect it from your box: sign in with your work or school Microsoft account, choose the site, choose the library, and optionally a folder inside it.

Before you start

  • You need a work or school Microsoft account. A personal Microsoft account has no SharePoint; for one of those, connect OneDrive instead.
  • You need to be able to add files to the library you want, in SharePoint itself. DocButterfly writes as you, so it can only put files where you can.
  • Your organization may require an administrator to approve DocButterfly first. See What it asks permission for.

Connect it

  1. Open your box. While you are setting it up, the Where your files land step has the Connect buttons; on a box that is already set up, they are under Settings, Where your files land.
  2. Press Connect SharePoint, then Sign in with Microsoft. Microsoft's own sign-in page opens. Choose your work or school account, sign in, and accept the permission (or ask your administrator, if Microsoft says approval is needed). A business that connects SharePoint through its own app registration presses Use a business app registration instead: see Through your business app registration.
  3. You come back to a page titled Choose your SharePoint library. It lists the SharePoint sites you can open; type part of a site's name and press Search to narrow it down. Choose the site.
  4. The library: a site with one library (most have one, called Documents) has it chosen for you. A site with more shows a list to choose from. Only document libraries are listed.
  5. Optionally, a folder inside the library. Click a folder in the list to put your files in it, and click again to go deeper; the path above the list (for example Documents › General) shows where you are, and clicking a part of it goes back there. Top of the library puts files in no folder at all. You can also type a new folder, for example Invoices/2026; it is made inside the folder you are in when you save. Above Save and continue, the page always says where files will land.
  6. Press Save and continue. DocButterfly checks the library with Microsoft, makes the folder if it is missing, and takes you back to your box, where the new SharePoint place is listed. Press Send my files here (or Also send here, when DocButterfly delivers for you while you are away) to make it a place your files go.

If you close the library page before saving, the connection is kept but cannot receive files. Your box shows it with Choose a library, which opens the same page again.

What it asks permission for

The sign-in asks Microsoft for one permission, Sites.ReadWrite.All, as you (Microsoft calls this a delegated permission). Microsoft's consent screen describes it as reading and writing items in all site collections. Because it is delegated, it never reaches more than you can already reach in SharePoint.

  • What DocButterfly does with it: lists the sites, libraries and folders you can open while you choose where files go, and then adds each delivered file to that one library and folder. It writes nowhere else, and it does not read files out of the library.
  • Why not something narrower: choosing a site means searching for one, and Microsoft offers no narrower permission that allows that. The per-site permission (Sites.Selected) needs an administrator to grant every site to DocButterfly one by one before anyone could choose it.
  • Administrator approval: many organizations do not let people approve this permission themselves. If Microsoft says Need admin approval, ask your Microsoft 365 administrator to approve DocButterfly (in the Microsoft Entra admin center, under Enterprise applications), then press Connect SharePoint again.
  • The same DocButterfly app as OneDrive: no app registration of your own is needed. For SharePoint connected through an app registration your organization controls instead, see SharePoint (app registration).

Through your business app registration

A business can connect SharePoint through an app registration it controls instead of a person's sign-in. In the box, press Connect SharePoint, then Use a business app registration: it lists the account's SharePoint (app registration) connections from DocButterfly Connections, and links to Connections to add one.

  • Press Choose a library beside one. The same Choose your SharePoint library page opens. An app registration with Sites.Selected reaches only the sites an administrator granted it, one at a time, so the sites cannot be listed: paste the site's address into the search box instead.
  • The library and folder you choose are used only by FlyaDoc. The connection's own site, library and folder, which your DocButterfly workflows use, do not change, so every workflow step keeps filing where it did before. Until a library is chosen here, the connection cannot receive your files, and your box shows it with Choose a library.
  • The place card says Uses your business app registration. Files from it are delivered by DocButterfly while you are away, never by your browser.

Where files land

  • Each delivered file goes into the library and folder you chose, under its own name. Your box names the place as SharePoint › site › library › folder, says (top of the library) when there is no folder, and has an Open in SharePoint link to that folder.
  • Microsoft Teams: a team's files are in its SharePoint site's Documents library, one folder per channel. A channel's Files tab shows only that channel's folder, so a file at the top of the library does not show in any channel. To see delivered files in a channel, choose that channel's folder (the picker labels them, for example General - Teams channel).
  • A file is never overwritten. If the library already has a file with the same name, SharePoint gives the new one a different name and keeps both.
  • Files arrive in your box first and are then sent on. When your own browser delivers them, they are unlocked in that browser and uploaded straight to SharePoint. When DocButterfly delivers them while you are away, DocButterfly opens each file to do that, as the box's Settings say before you turn it on.
  • To change the library or folder later, press Change library under the SharePoint place in Settings. The next file goes to the new place.

Disconnect it

  1. If the SharePoint place is one your files go to, take it off first: in Settings, Where your files land, press Remove this place (or Stop sending my files there).
  2. Then press Disconnect on the SharePoint place. DocButterfly destroys its stored sign-in at once. Files already delivered stay in SharePoint.
  3. Microsoft has no way for an app to end one sign-in on its own, so an access token already issued can keep working for up to an hour. To remove DocButterfly's access to your organization entirely, ask your Microsoft 365 administrator to remove it under Enterprise applications in the Microsoft Entra admin center.

The connection is also listed on Connections in DocButterfly, where you can test it, choose its library, or deactivate it.
